Missions & Outreach

Mission Covenant

As a part of our commitment to making disciples through service, Speedway UMC members are encouraged each year to make a pledge to support our Mission Covenant through giving and volunteering. We exceeded this year's financial goal. We support 12 projects each year through our gifts, prayers and service.

This Month's Mission Focus: Hope for Tahanovce

Located in Kocise in the eastern part of Slovakia, Tahanovce is a neighborhood where the United Methodist Church offers after-school care, summer programs and the first United Methodist worship service in the city.

Our goal: $2,000.

October is Mission Month

October is a month long celebration of the year round mission projects we support through our Mission Covenant Pledge. The month begins with World Communion Sunday on the first Sunday and concludes with Mission Covenant Sunday on the last Sunday during which we dedicate our pledges for the new year. Throughout the month we send out mission teams to work in the community. Our teams have led worship at the Marion County Jail, worked on renovating low-income housing, cleaned youth centers, served soup kitchens, tutored persons for whom English is a second language, walked in the CROP Walk, sang and performed at nursing homes and homeless shelters, and packed supplies for Operation Classroom.

This Year's Schedule will included Operation Classroom Packing Party; , Attorney Ginger Jacob's presentation on the DREAM Act; UMYF presentation on Restoring Lives West;CROP Walk; UM Jail Ministries @ the Marion County Jail.

Loose Coin Offering

The loose coins placed in each Sunday’s offering plate go toward special mission projects. Each month the coins go to a different project.

Mountain T.O.P.

This year's team served over the 4th of July. Led by B.J Huffman, seventeen youth and adults are serving this year. Youth ages 12 and up, accompanied by adults, have been going to Tennessee for over 30 years. For more on Mountain TOP visit their website. The big celebration will be in both services this Sunday.

S.O.S. (Support One Soldier)

A list of items needed are on the UMM bulletin board. Items for the soldiers could include the following: telephone calling cards, beef jerky, small pocket size puzzle books, dvd, dvd plaers, batteries and stationary. Bring your items in and put in box in cloakroom.
