Pitch In Dinner with Vida Nueva UMC Great Success! : Sunday, July 11 at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, July 11 we shared our second fellowship meal with our brothers and sisters at Vida Nueva United Methodist Church. It was a packed house and we enjoyed good food and singing. We presented our first tithe to their congregation of $2,853. This came from our recent capital campaign to retire the debt on our sanctuary renovations, ten percent of what we are raising goes to Vida Nueva.

NEW: Ministry Cluster Food Drive

You can help our ministry cluster by collecting donations to supply the food pantries in our cluster. For more information contact Dianne Stephens.

Get Ready for: Faith in Action Sunday, October 3

Come ready to work on the first Sunday in October. Instead of worshipping at our regular time, we will be sending out service teams to lead worship in nursing homes, clean up the environment, and serve the poor and elderly. At 12 noon we will return to the church for lunch and holy communion. Let's put our faith in action as we become the 'Body of Christ broken and shared with the world'.

Mission Covenant

As a part of our commitment to making disciples through service, Speedway UMC members are encouraged each year to make a pledge to support our Mission Covenant through giving and volunteering. We exceeded this year's financial goal. We support 12 projects each year through our gifts, prayers and service.

This Month's Mission Focus: Curamericas

Our goal each month is $1,000.

October is Mission Month

October is a month long celebration of the year round mission projects we support through our Mission Covenant Pledge. The month begins with World Communion Sunday on the first Sunday and concludes with Mission Covenant Sunday on the last Sunday during which we dedicate our pledges for the new year. Throughout the month we send out mission teams to work in the community. Our teams have led worship at the Marion County Jail, worked on renovating low-income housing, cleaned youth centers, served soup kitchens, tutored persons for whom English is a second language, walked in the CROP Walk, sang and performed at nursing homes and homeless shelters, and packed supplies for Operation Classroom.

This year we are added a new project from Slovakia: Hope for Tahanovce. Tahanovce is a neighborhood in the eastern Slovak city of Kosice. The communist-era high rise apartments are home to many children and this project offers after school and summer camp ministries. On October 4 they will launch an evangelistic crusade and on October 11 they will begin holding the first Methodist worship services. As a part of our mission covenant we will help support the creation of this new congregation!

Loose Coin Offering

The loose coins placed in each Sunday’s offering plate go toward special mission projects. Each month the coins go to a different project.

Mountain T.O.P.

This year's team left June 19 and returned June 26. Led by B.J Huffman, seventeen youth and adults are serving this year. Youth ages 12 and up, accompanied by adults, have been going to Tennessee for over 30 years. For more on Mountain TOP visit their website.
The big celebration will be in both services this Sunday.
